There are just a handful of gifts that really matter in the big scheme of things…When you receive such gifts, it feels such an honor and a blessing that sometimes it does not seem real. And I wonder why…why are we not more familiar with such gifts from the heart? Why are they so foreign to us?
What I am talking here are gifts of understanding, deeply listening, forgiveness, acceptance, and unconditional love. These gifts nourish us and elevate us beyond our comprehension. These gifts come from the soul and go directly to our soul. Like a thunderbolt.
I recently received a few of such gifts, and I was hesitant receiving it. Why?…Why is it so hard to receive than to give? Because I am not used to it…my soul whispered…because these gifts seem to be forgotten in today’s world…Because we have lost connection with what really matters…because it’s so much easier to give than to receive…
What seems to matter most are material gifts, of course. They do contribute to our misery, as Jung states in his book “Memories, Dreams, Reflections”: “The more a man lays stress on false possessions, and the less sensitivity he has for what is essential, the less satisfying is his life. He feels limited because he has limited aims, and the result is envy and jealousy.” They fill a certain void, and provide the illusion that we are fulfilled…but are we?
Only gifts from the soul bring warmth and comfort to our deeper being. They provide a meaning to our existence, they allow us to surrender to our beauty…remembering that giving and receiving are equally important.
